Word Unscrambler
Unscramble any letters into real words.
Type your letters, hit the button, and get every English word hiding in them — grouped by length, each with its Scrabble score. The whole search runs in your browser against a 172,823-word list; nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.
Up to 12 letters. Type ? for a blank tile (max 2) — a blank can become any letter but scores 0.
How the unscrambler works
Give it a rack of letters and it gives back every word those letters can spell. The tool compares your letters against the full word list, keeps only the words that can be built from the tiles you actually hold, and sorts them so the longest — usually the most valuable — come first. A question mark stands in for a blank tile: it can become any letter, but because a real blank is worth nothing, any letter it replaces scores 0 points.
Three filters narrow the list when a board position matters. Starts with and Ends with pin a word to letters already on the board, and Contains finds words that pass through a specific letter or pair, like QU or ING. If you need words that use the whole rack, tick “Use every letter” — or head to the anagram solver, which does exactly that and nothing else.
Getting more out of a stuck rack
When a rack looks hopeless, the answer is usually a short word you already know but did not see. Vowels pile up because players hunt for long words and overlook two- and three-letter plays — the complete list of two-letter words is worth memorising, since a two-letter word can open two directions on a board at once. Also look for common endings hiding in your letters: -ED, -ER, -ING and -TION turn a mediocre rack into a playable word surprisingly often.
Frequently asked questions
- How many letters can I unscramble at once?
- Up to 12 letters, including up to 2 blank tiles typed as question marks. That covers a full Scrabble rack with room to spare, plus the letters already on the board you want to play through.
- Where do the Scrabble scores come from?
- From the standard English letter values: 1 point for A E I O U L N S T R, 2 for D G, 3 for B C M P, 4 for F H V W Y, 5 for K, 8 for J X, and 10 for Q Z. Letters supplied by a blank tile add 0. Board bonuses like double-word squares are not included — they depend on where you place the word.
- Which word list is used?
- The public ENABLE lexicon, a long-standing open word list of 172,823 English words. Official tournament lists (such as the current NASPA and Collins lists) differ slightly at the edges — a handful of words move in or out each revision — so competitive players should treat this as a very close reference rather than a ruling.
- Is my input sent to a server?
- No. The word list downloads once as a plain file and every search happens on your device. There is no account, no history and nothing to clear afterwards.
