Jumble Solver
The daily Jumble, unscrambled.
Type each scrambled word from the puzzle, take the answer the solver returns, and note the circled letters. Once all four (or six) words are solved, run the circled letters through the same box to crack the final pun.
Up to 12 letters. Type ? for a blank tile (max 2) — a blank can become any letter but scores 0.
Solving a Jumble puzzle, start to finish
Every scrambled word in a Jumble is a perfect anagram — the answer uses all the letters. That is why this page runs the solver in strict mode: shorter partial words never pollute your results, so the answer you want is usually the only one on screen. Work through the words one at a time, writing down which letters land in the circles as you go.
The final step is the one that stumps people, because the leftover circled letters often form two or three short words — a pun answering the cartoon. This solver finds single words, so for the finale, try likely short splits yourself first (the cartoon's caption almost always hints at the phrase's shape), then check each chunk here. If a chunk of five or six letters will not resolve, a different earlier answer may be the culprit: some scrambles admit two anagrams, and only one of them puts the right letters in the circles. The anagram solver shows every full-length alternative when you need to backtrack.
Frequently asked questions
- One of my words has two possible answers. Which is right?
- The one whose circled letters help spell the final phrase. Solve the remaining words first, look at the letters you have, and the correct choice usually announces itself.
- Can the solver do the final phrase too?
- Partly. Enter the circled letters and it will find single words of that length; for a two- or three-word punchline, split the letters by the word lengths shown under the cartoon and solve each piece.
- Does it work for the kids' Jumble and other variants?
- Yes — any puzzle whose answers are ordinary English words works, including Jumble for Kids, the Sunday Jumble and the many imitators in local papers.
- Is today's official answer stored anywhere here?
- No. The solver computes answers from a word list on your device; it neither stores nor fetches the day's published puzzle.
