Anagram Solver
True anagrams. Every letter, used.
Unlike a general unscrambler, this solver is strict: it only returns words built from all your letters, nothing shorter. Feed it LISTEN and you get SILENT, ENLIST, TINSEL and INLETS — the full rearrangements, with no three-letter filler in between.
Up to 12 letters. Type ? for a blank tile (max 2) — a blank can become any letter but scores 0.
Anagrams vs. unscrambled words — what's the difference?
An anagram uses every letter exactly once; unscrambled words may use only some of them. From the letters LISTEN, an unscrambler happily returns SIT, TEN, IS and about ninety other partial words. An anagram solver returns only the six-letter solutions. That strictness is what crossword setters, puzzle hunts and name-generators actually need: when every letter has to land somewhere, partial answers are just noise.
Blank tiles work here too: add a ? and the missing letter becomes a wildcard, so a five-letter fragment plus a blank can still solve into a six-letter word. Be aware the genuine-anagram count drops fast as letters grow — seven letters often anagram neatly, ten letters rarely do without a blank, and twelve is a small miracle. If a long entry returns nothing, try the plain word unscrambler to see the best near-misses hiding inside it.
Frequently asked questions
- Can it solve multi-word anagrams or phrases?
- Not yet — this solver finds single words only. Splitting letters across two or three words is a much bigger search and is on the roadmap for a future version.
- Why did my ten letters return nothing?
- Most ten-letter letter sets have no single-word anagram in English at all. Add a blank tile (?) to give the search one free letter, or drop a letter and try nine — the odds improve dramatically.
- Are proper names included?
- No. The list contains ordinary dictionary words only, so names of people and places will not appear as solutions.
- Which word list does it use?
- The same public ENABLE lexicon (172,823 words) as the rest of the site, searched entirely on your device.
