Wordle Solver
Every Wordle answer your clues still allow.
Copy your board into the boxes — green letters in place, yellow letters in the row where Wordle flagged them, gray letters in the last box — and the solver keeps only the five-letter words that fit all three kinds of clue at once.
If a letter is gray in one spot but green or yellow somewhere else, leave it out of the gray box — the green and yellow clues win.
How to enter your clues
Green boxes take the letter exactly where Wordle turned it green. Yellow boxes take the letter in the position where you guessed it — Wordle has told you the letter is in the word, but not in that spot, and the solver enforces both halves of that. Gray letters go in the wide box at the bottom; any word containing one is removed.
One trap catches almost everyone: a letter can be gray in one guess and still be in the answer, when the guess used that letter twice and the word only has it once. If your results come back empty, a gray letter is the usual suspect — remove the gray letters one at a time until candidates reappear. Also note this solver uses the broad ENABLE word list, which is wider than Wordle's official answer list: every real answer will be in your results, but a few obscure words Wordle would never pick may appear too.
A sensible guessing order
Openers built from the most common letters (the E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S, N family) cut the field fastest. After your first guess, this solver shows you exactly what is left — if hundreds of candidates remain, a second guess chosen to test new common letters usually beats guessing from the candidate list itself, because it eliminates more of the alphabet per turn. Once the list is down to a handful, switch to picking from it directly.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is a word I know is wrong still in the list?
- Most likely a yellow clue position: if you enter a yellow letter in a different box than the one you guessed it in, the solver treats it as “not in that position” for the wrong square. Re-enter yellows in the exact boxes where they appeared in your guess.
- Why did I get zero results?
- Almost always a double-letter gray trap, described above. Clear the gray box, check the candidates return, then re-add gray letters that are definitely absent.
- Does the solver know today's answer?
- No. It works purely from the clues you enter and a general English word list — it has no access to Wordle's daily answer list and does not look anything up online.
- Can I use it for other five-letter games?
- Yes. Dordle, Quordle and similar daily games use the same green/yellow/gray logic per board, so the same filtering applies; just run it once per board.
